Shoulders
The shoulder is a complex girdle that can have many different diagnoses applied to it. Many times it takes specialized test such as an MRI to identify exactly where the problem is originating from. Pain you may be feeling in your shoulder may or may not be originating there. It takes the specialized knowledge of an Occupational or Physical Therapist to pinpoint where your problem is coming from.
At your first visit, the therapist will obtain a thorough history and perform a full examination of your shoulder girdle which includes the scapula (shoulder blade), humerus (long bone in your upper arm), joint, and clavicle (collar bone). They will also examine the neck and spine to assure nothing is orginating there. Test of your Range of Motion, Strength, Reflexes, Special Test, etc. may also be performed.
Diagnoses are as follows but are not limited to:
Arthritis
AC joint dislocation
Adhesive Capsulitis/Frozen Shoulder
Arthritis
Bursitis
Nerve Compression
Rotator Cuff Injury/Surgery
Shoulder Replacement
Tendonitis
