What is speech therapy?
Speech therapy focuses on receptive language (which is the ability to understand words being spoken to you) and expressive language (which is the ability to use words to speak with). Speech therapy also encompasses the mechanics of producing words (such as articulation), pitch, fluency and volume. A licensed Speech-Language Pathologist helps treat those who need therapy services because of occurrences such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and vocal abanormalities (nodules, polyps, etc).
