Melanie Massey, PT

Melanie Massey received her Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport in 1993. Her intensive continuing education background includes over 400 hours in the study of children with moderate to severe physical disabilities. Melanie has provided numerous educational conferences to the physical therapy assistant program at Bossier Parish Community College and has personally traveled to Spain to train the school and parents of a child who attended her clinic while in the United States.

Melanie is a native of West Monroe, LA and established her private practice in 1995. Melanie saw a need for treating people with special needs and founded MMPT, as the first of its kind in Northeast Louisiana. What began in a little room and a single employee, Melanie’s vision to treat children with disabilities has grown to 4 locations including a fully staffed adult therapy clinics, a staff of over 30 and employment of over 17 therapists. MMPT leads the area in progressive treatment techniques and is currently 1 of 20 clinics in the United States offering the Intensive Model of Therapy (IMOT) using the NeuroSuit to patients. MMPT is also responsible for training other therapists from around the world to implement this technique. Additionally, Melanie’s clinic is the first clinic in the world to introduce the NeuroSuit to adult stroke patients and has witnessed encouraging results in adults that have been up to 6 years post stroke.

Melanie previously served as Distric Chairman on the board of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Association (LPTA). Over the past 10 years Melanie has been extremely active in the community. She was instrumental in founding and served as a board member of the Dixie Diehard League, baseball league dedicated to children with special needs. She has served as a Kiwanis member, and on the Boards of Families Helping Families and Med Camps. She received recognition from the Mayor’s Council on Disabilities, both personally with the Compassionate Heart Award and with her MMPT Team for the Commercial Award for private business which best removed architectural or attitudinal barriers for people with disabilites in 2005.

Melanie currently lives with her husband, Todd, and their daughters, Ellie and Gabbi, in West Monroe and is activley assisting in the establishment of the Jake Owen Raborn Foundation, an organization which will provide financial support to children diagnosed with cancer. This is to honor her nephew, Jake.
